Reading

Supporting your child with reading

Although your child will be taught to read at school, you can have a huge impact on their reading journey by continuing their practice at home.

There are two types of reading books that your child may bring home:

A reading practice book - This will be at the correct phonic stage for your child. They should be able to read this fluently and independently.

Listen to them read the book. Remember to give them lots of praise – celebrate their success! If they can’t read a word, read it to them. After they have finished, talk about the book together.

A sharing book. - Your child will not be able to read this on their own. This book is for you both to read and enjoy together.

In order to encourage your child to become a lifelong reader, it is important that they learn to read for pleasure.

Please remember that you shouldn’t expect your child to read this alone.

Read it to or with your child and discuss the pictures, enjoy the story, predict what might happen next, use different voices for the characters, explore the facts in a non-fiction book.

We use Little Wandle at Parkway to teach the children.

We have been integrating with our peers in Ash Reception, We explored the mud kitchen, jumping on a trampoline and riding a bike on a track.

Colour mixing - We have been learning to mix primary colours to create a new colour. We used our fingers to mix paint and create a butterfly and we also used our hands to make a handprint to print two colours and then rubbed them together to create a new colour. It was so much fun as well as being a little bit messy!

Row, row, row your boat.

This week we have enjoyed learning about spring. We did finger printing to make a blossom tree.

Summer Term 1 This half term our topic is 'Changes'. We will be learning about changes in the outdoor environment as we move from spring to summer and also changes when we do some yummy cooking experiments!

Colourful semantics - Please use the starter pack to support your child in developing sentence writing.

Seasons -We have been learning about the different seasons of the year

Making our Mother's Day cards

We are enjoying engaging in our daily sensory circuits and visiting the Rainforest Room. We enjoy sitting together to enjoy our snack!
