Welcome to Oak 3!
In Spring term 1 we have been really busy and the children have been working incredibly hard. In English our focus has been on the book Traction Man by Mini Grey. The children have enjoyed the fantasy world of Traction Man and have been creating their own villains and plots based around the book. They have been writing a comic strip focusing on the Evil Hov - a villainous vacuum cleaner that is sucking up the toys.
In Mathematics our main focus has been on addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers, the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and properties of 3D shapes.
In ICT we have been using paint programs and also focusing on e-Safety. Our Science topic this term has been materials and their properties and they have been carrying out an investigation into what material would be suitable for an umbrella.
The focus for History has been toys from Victorian times until present. The children have enjoyed experiencing toys from a bygone era and discussing their favourite toys with their friends. We have been looking at the weather and seasons in Geography and the children have kept a weather diary to record the different weather that they experienced in a week - this ranged from snow and wind to rain and sunshine - typical English weather. Our topic for RE has be Judaism and the children have been learning about how Jewish people celebrate both at home and in the synagogue.
In Art we have been working on a montage in the artist LS Lowry and designing movable toys in DT
The children were all very excited when we had a visit from the Fire Brigade.
Next term we have lots more to look forward to including World Book Day and Science week, not to mention Chinese New Year.
Welcome to 2018
This term we will be focusing on the book Traction Man in English. This book is about a superhero toy and I am sure that we will have a lot of fun reading it.
In Science we will be exploring materials and their properties. At home you might like to see what objects are made of.
In History the children will be looking at toys old and new. You could share with them what your favourite toys were when you were a child.
